About Me

My name is Alex Walker. I’m interested in following the call of life. Paying attention to what is. Returning to being. I work with people and animals.

My work is inspired by the company I find in otherness, ecology and the connection I feel to spirits and beasts, landscapes and creatures and the many marvels of the cosmos as they arrive through the portals in my being. As I explore I come to know myself. I am asking what happens when I let go of attachments, striving, ambition, longing, thinking and instead yield to life? Can I listen with my whole being? I am constantly touched and grateful and inspired by the people and animals I work with and the guidance I receive from life. I feel like we as a society have become very confused about what is important. We spend a great deal of time in conflict within ourselves and resisting what is. I live in the questions and openess to the possibility that there is another way to live, a way free from this conflict. It requires a great deal of energy, passion, attention and letting go but ultimately I have found that by transforming my inner world the world around me transforms quite naturally.

If it helps to you know some of the content of my experience. I am a qualified Trust Technique Practitioner. I have facilitated workshops at the Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility Conference with Jayne Johnson and with Clare Raido. I ran the horticultural therapy programme at Hulme Community Garden Centre in Manchester for two years. I am a trained clown. I have attended climate camps and an ecopsychology gathering and have been part of many creative and direct action groups and actions. Jayne and I have also run several embodiment workshops together. I have attended workshops in person and online fooling and voice work for disobedience with the mystical Laura Geiger and together we also created the School of the Small and Imperfect. My passion for life and liberation from my conditioned mind has gotten me involved in many things – including neurodiversity and autism awareness, polyvagal theory, poetry, permaculture, infant development, education, dogs, mycology, swimming, art, drum making, stick and poke tattooing, crafts, zine making, cooking, singing, dancing and foraging.

I consider myself uniquely credible for the work I do because of who I am and my life experiences. I have spent over ten years in personal therapy and regular mediation. I have died twice and found a way to live which feels harmonious, alive and oriented to service. I consider my life to be a spiritual process and that is the sense through which I integrate and orient. I am aware that sometimes it helps to know – so here are my paper qualifications: BA (hons) English lit, Secondary Postgraduate Certificate of Education, MA Creative Writing, Level 2 certificate in counselling, Foundation Year in person centred counselling (Temenos), Permaculture Design Certificate, RHS level 2 cert in Horticulture, Horticultural Therapy Training with Thrive.
